Improving Literacy Through a Strong Foundation.

Grants and Resources

The South Carolina State Library Foundation is committed to providing opportunities for the continuing education and professional development of its youth services personnel in South Carolina public libraries through the Dr. Pat Feehan Youth Services Grant Program.

Dr. Pat Feehan Youth Services Grant Program

Dr. Patricia Feehan, called “Dr. Pat” by many who have been touched by her great enthusiasm for learning, literacy, and libraries, retired from the faculty of the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina in 2016, after forty-eight years in the LIS profession. So many students have gone on to serve youth and young adults and succeed in many other library roles, all inspired by Dr. Pat. Through her love of learning, her commitment to sharing knowledge, and her proud belief in the power of libraries, librarianship and community, Dr. Patricia Feehan exemplifies the incomparable library advocate. The SC State Library Foundation is proud to host a grant program in her name.

Grant Funds

The SCSLF board will award small grants in varying amounts to provide assistance to those in the field of youth library services (children and young adults) to support their personal learning efforts. These grants may be used for continuing education such as conference or workshop registration, books for YS coursework or training classes, membership in professional youth services associations, among other efforts. The Dr. Pat Feehan Youth Services Grant Program is designed to provide financial aid for any purpose reasonably designed to improve and develop skills in youth library services. The amount of the award will vary depending on the proposed activity.
